I am just curious to know, do any of you like to ride horses? I have 4 horses. I try to ride every weekend. I compete in horse competitions.
I don't own horses or ponies, but I have worked with them a lot. I did meet one horse who had been round the Grand National once. Unfortunately he didn't win, but he did quite well, which was cool. I have ridden a few times on different ponies and horses, but never really had any proper lessons as such.
Don't own them yet (we don't have the accomidations for horses), but I will own them eventually.
i groom horses on a regular basis at a stable, i also spend a lot of time with them, which is part of my role too, socialising young stock and getting them used to being handled, so you could say i kind of own each horse that i work with, as i have total responsibility for that horse while working with it. many cute tales here.
I absolutely love horses and ride my cousin's whenever I can get out to the barn (unfortunately that hasn't been often since I've started college.)
I also rode for a year in 4H, but hated it because the stupid board wouldn't let me do anything but the adaptive trail class! I was the only participant! It sucked! Well it was a good experience riding at the fair but still...
I've also had lessons and would own a horse if I could, unfortunately everytime I ask my parents they've said no... hmmm... wonder why? lol
I love horses and wish I could have one.
I do love horses, but it's been years since I rode. That's part of why I want to travel back to CO & TX, to spend a day riding. I wouldn't ever own one, tho, paying to board is like another rent check.
I'd love to learn to ride a horse. I've ridden twice but I was very young and it wasn't really riding, more like walking in a carnival type atmosphere. I'm also very interested in hearing about guide horses. Have any of you ever seen/used one or known anyone that had one?
There's an endurance rider in South Africa who did a fab recording of his ventures on the local roads there on his horse, even feeding it and the like.
Interesting stuff.
Oh and to the poster who wonders why your parents say no: Unless they're quite wealthy, it's probably the money. I'd say no to my daughter too, if she wanted one, only because of the money. You pay for board, expensive feed, a farrier every six weeks, special medications, vet bills and the list goes on. Plus, if you , the minor decide yo want to 'omg' and 'lmfao' on your cell phone rather than shovel horse shit, your parents have to either a. make you do it, or b. do it themselves, or c. get charged with animal neglect. The more I've read about horses the more I see why parents say no most of the time. It means the parents must be ready in all occasions to step in, not only if the child just doesn't, but you'll get sick during the school year, maybe you have competitions to go to, weekends away, time with friends, and somebody has got to care for and clean that horse. Parents have to accept the child having a pet only if they themselves are completely and totally ready to care for it.
So ... call me the grinch, but that's probably why.
I have 1 horse. And yes, it is very expensive indeed. A farrier every six weeks, vet bills, hay, and all that. So yeah, it's the money. That's why your parents won't let you have a horse it's very expensive.
I have just one miniature at this time, it's been ages since I had a full sized horse, though I plan on finding myself one in a year or two though! I love horseback riding and being around horses in general, I feel very fortunate to even have my miniature, he's always a day brightener and I may teach him to do minimal guide work to make our walks easier.
I'll eventually own a horse!
I think horses are pretty dcool I've never owned one but have had a few friends who have. I've ridden a few timesn. Not sure if I'd ever want to own one but they are pretty neat.
I don't know that I'd want to actually own a horse if only because of the cost. That's why I haven't looked into the possibility of a guide horse (where would you keep him anyway?) Bt I love horses. I haven't ridden in about ten or twelve years. That was one of the reasons I moved to Idaho since this area in particular is farm country. Unfortunately I don't know anyone who owns horses. My parents have neighbors who have them but I'm not sure they actually own them or if they're stabling them for someone else. And they're not so friendly that I'd feel comfortable asking them.
lol I know that they are expensive! :) I was being sarcastic, it's just hard to tell in writing lol.
We have a large yard and my uncle owns a hay field right next to us, so we could have the space, but I think it is the money (or was, there's no point in me trying to get them to get me one now since I'm in college lol),also, neither of my parents really know much about horses.
Ah well, I'll just hang out with my friends with horses and (hopefully) work at a ranch camp this summer. :)
I rode when I was very young, only around a corral. How when you don't see at all can you guide a horse? The older horse i rode eventually caught on to the fact I couldn't see so trotted around the corral without me trying to guide him. He was pretty smart.
